“Blimey wasn't expecting them to be so heavy!”

About Us

BIO
Formed in 2015, Aaru is the first Progressive Metalcore/Djent band in Iceland. Seeking to blend a melodic atmosphere with crushing riffs, passionate vocals and reflective lyrics. Having released their EP, Ozymandias, in april 2018 they are now hard at work on their first LP and have no intention of stopping anytime soon.

Alexander Glói Pétursson
Guitarist/Vocalist
Getting his first guitar at the age of six, immediately a spark of interest for metal music got into him. Starting out playing the classic rock songs from Green Day, Nirvana etc. he still was always more into Metal. So he started getting into bands like Slipknot, Meshuggah and Avenged Sevenfold. One day he found Icarus Lives by the legends in Periphery and the interest in Djent formed.

Úlfar Alexander Úlfarsson
Guitarist
Hailing from the north, Úlfar grew up with his stepdads collection of vintage thrash metal. At the tender age of 13 he started playing the guitar and loved it. After getting through the "Metallica phase" he started branching out towards heavier music such as Lamb of God and Whitechapel. The real spark happened with the discovery of Keith Merrow and the wonders of the 7 string guitar. Getting tired of the life in the north he moved to Reykjavik in search of musical opportunity and would eventually end up in two bands, While My City Burns and Aaru.

Gauti Hreinsson
Bassist
Gauti's interest in playing music started when his dad got him a live DVD with Green Day. Starting off on the guitar at age 8, a dream awoke of playing music for a living. His teenage years consisted of two very important things: skateboarding and music. As one of the head honchos of While My City Burns he transfered over to vocals and showed that as an artist he wasn't bound to stringed instruments. Since WMCB and Aaru are closer band friends than Bert and Ernie, it seemed only natural to ask him to pick up a new instrument for Aaru and join us as the bass player.

Aron Bragi Baldursson
Drummer/Lyricist
Growing up just outside of Iceland's capital city Reykjavík. Aron's interest in music began at the age of 12. Having heard his dad play the drums since he was a child he had never given it much thought, but all of a sudden a spark ignited and there was no turning back. As well as being the drummer and lyricist he's also one of the founding members. Remembering fondly the first band meeting in a KFC restaurant in his hometown of Mosfellsbær.
Donations
The music industry is not what it used to be, so if you wish to make a donation straight to the band you can do so here.
The donations will be used to help us on tour, make music videos and produce and release more music.
Every little helps and will enable us to make more quality content for our fans.
With love, Aaru.
